Who I Am?
My name is Joe Manno and I am a
junior honors student at the University of Akron.
I am pursuing a
double major in Economics and Political Science. I am also the
President of the
College Republicans at the University of Akron.
My duties in
this organization include overseeing our over 8,000 dollar budget,
organizing
meetings and events, and helping political candidates with what ever
they need.
I am very interested in Politics, and that is one of the reasons I am
obtaining
a degree in Political Science. I spend most of my time outside of
school
working with this organization, and spending time with my girlfriend.
My Educational Objectives
I hope to
graduate with a Bachelors of Science in Political Science and a
Bachelors of
Science in Economics in May of 2011. Moreover, if I can graduate by
then, I
will hold two degrees before I am 21 years old. I also hope to graduate
with a
grade point average of 3.7 or better. Furthermore, it is my goal to
achieve an
A in all of my Economics classes. Currently, I maintain a 3.608 grade
point
average and have received an A in all of my classes.
I chose my
two fields of study for several reasons. As I mentioned earlier, I am
very
interested in politics, and that is why I chose Political Science as
one of my
majors. I also chose Economics for much of the same reasons. Because of
my
interest in politics, Economics helps me learn more about the policies
that
politicians are initiating in the U.S. and determine if they
will
actually help our economy. One of the main goals that politicians try
to
achieve is economic growth and stability, and thus this field allows me
to
analyze their proposals to determine the best. Also, I chose Economics
because
I intend on going to Law
School, and
Economics
Majors, on average, score higher on the LSAT than any other major.
Moreover,
Economics is also known as one of the best majors to have when
attending Law
School.
One of the reasons this is true is because Economists tend to think
like
Lawyers, and this helps law students as they prepare for the bar.
My Career Objectives
Currently
I work for the Department of Veterans Affairs, and I hope to spend the
rest of
my working career at this government agency. After I receive my
Bachelors, I
hope to move up and begin working in the administrative offices of the
VA.
While working here, I want to participate in the program at the University of Akron where I would receive a
Masters in
Business Administration and a J.D. in Law in four years. After I
receive those
degrees, I would then hope to move up in the VA and work in the Office
of
General Counsel as an attorney for this government agency. I feel like
I am at
a distinct advantage right now, because I was hired in as a student at
the VA,
and now have my foot in the door at an organization that I could spend
the rest
of my life at. In fact, I am currently building my years towards
retirement at
the VA at the age of 19. However, if that does not work out for me, I
will have
experience to enter the business world of Law with my J.D. and M.A. But
hopefully, it works out the way I want it to, and I stay with the VA
