The University of Akron
Department of Economics
Who am I?
I am an undergraduate student in my sophomore year at the University of Akron. I am majoring in Labor Economics, but plan to also pursue a broad education in Economics. I have always had an interest in computers; I am considering a minor in Computer Science or Mathematics, and I plan to supplement both of these fields with some business education in Accounting.
My main objective for my education is to learn about Economics, and how to use it to analyze and understand the world. I have interests in both Microeconomics and Macroeconomics, and plan to learn about both of these areas in order to further my economic understanding. Although my interest in Economics is primarily academic at the moment, I also plan to take classes in areas that could supplement my education both academically and in the business world, such as Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, and Accounting. As I continue with my education, I plan to maintain and improve my grade point average, gain admission to the University of Akron Honor’s College, and find an internship opportunity. I am still considering some sort of graduate program as a future educational option.
Although I am still in “the shallows” of my Economic education, I have a few career objectives. Primarily I want to pursue a career that will allow me to further explore the science of Economics. In the private sector, I would expect to aim for some sort of analytical or consulting opportunity with a firm, but a public sector job doing some sort of research is not completely out of the question either. I still have yet to make a definite decision, but I expect to come to one as I become more familiar with economic analysis and research.
